aMuSiNG MuSiNG ~ 26 things that make you go hmmm...?!?

Below is one of the scripts I received for our theatre series' consideration. I cannot tell if it is genius... or a waste of Microsoft-saving hard drive space. Thoughts?

The 26 Points of Unspoken Salvation
by Davia Ace
Lights up.

2 Women, one UnColored and one NotWhite, sit side by side; however, they are worlds apart.

The UnColored Woman needs, while the NotWhite Woman has. The NotWhite Woman yearns, while the UnColored Woman is sufficed.

They stare forward, blankly, and…

UNCOLORED: A.

NOTWHITE: B.

UNCOLORED: C.

NOTWHITE: See me.

UNCOLORED: Seed me.

[1-second beat]

NOTWHITE: D.

UNCOLORED: E.

NOTWHITE: F.

UNCOLORED: Fuck me.

NOTWHITE: Touch me.

UNCOLORED: Fuck me.

The NotWhite Woman looks at the UnColored Woman. The UnColored Woman does not return her glance.

NOTWHITE: (extremely conversational) You're crude.

UNCOLORED: You're colored.

NOTWHITE: So what?

UNCOLORED: Just sayin'.

NOTWHITE: So what? (1-second beat) Deeper. (1-second beat) See deeper.

UNCOLORED: Still colored.

NOTWHITE: Deeper.

UNCOLORED: With red.

NOTWHITE: Deeper yet.

UNCOLORED: Now ivory.

NOTWHITE: Deeper.

UNCOLORED: Then heat.

NOTWHITE: There. (2-second beat) Hold. (2-second beat) Relish.

The UnColored Woman looks at the NotWhite Woman, meeting her eyes.

UNCOLORED: (sadly) I'll never be here again.

NOTWHITE: No bother. Here will never be again.

Both Women, again, stare forward blankly.

UNCOLORED: G.

NOTWHITE: H.

UNCOLORED: I.

NOTWHITE: I am.

UNCOLORED: I am not.

NOTWHITE: I love.

UNCOLORED: I cannot.

NOTWHITE: I've been...

UNCOLORED: ...been touched?

NOTWHITE: By whom?

UNCOLORED: By Him.

[5-seconds of SILENCE.]

NOTWHITE: J.

UNCOLORED: K.

NOTWHITE: L.

UNCOLORED: For loss.

NOTWHITE: For life.

UNCOLORED: For losing.

NOTWHITE: For living.

UNCOLORED: For having lost…

NOTWHITE: …yet having lived.

UNCOLORED: For Him.

NOTWHITE: With Him.

[5-second SILENCE.]

UNCOLORED: M.

NOTWHITE: N.

UNCOLORED: O.

The Women look to each other.

NOTWHITE: Oh?

UNCOLORED: (laughing) Oh!

NOTWHITE: Ooooohhhhhh?

UNCOLORED: Oh, yes.

NOTWHITE: (horrified) Oh, no.

UNCOLORED: Oh...

NOTWHITE: (small) Oh.

UNCOLORED: Oh, well.

The Women return forward, staring outward blankly.

NOTWHITE: P.

UNCOLORED: Q.

NOTWHITE: R. (beat) Are you?

UNCOLORED: Am I?

NOTWHITE: Deeper.

UNCOLORED: I'm not.

NOTWHITE: Deeper yet.

[5-seconds of SILENCE.]

UNCOLORED: (resolute) I'm ready.

The NotWhite Women rises from her chair, crosses to the UnColored Woman and envelops her in her ivory arms.

NOTWHITE: Cut, until it burns,
Until it’s smooth and soft.
Disinfect and resurrect,
Until it feels right.

Cool it. Cool it, quick.
Rinse from death.
And do it again. Yet again.
Blue coating with a sailing ship.

Cover it up.
Looks so much better.
Means what it says.
Says what it means.
Screams what it means.

Paint it pink or gold or tan.
Then green to keep Him erect.
Like a rock. A fucked up rock.
Cool down. Cool it, fast.

UNCOLORED: One last look for a final glance.

The UnColored Woman pushes the NotWhite Woman off of her.

The NotWhite Woman returns to her chair and stares blankly forward.

NOTWHITE: S.

UNCOLORED: T.

NOTWHITE: U.

UNCOLORED: You and me?

NOTWHITE: We are.

UNCOLORED: We cannot.

NOTWHITE: We love.

UNCOLORED: I cannot.

NOTWHITE: I've been...

UNCOLORED: ...been touched?

NOTWHITE: By whom?

UNCOLORED: By Him. (2-second beat) By Him. (2-second beat) By you! (5-second beat) By Him.

[5-seconds of SILENCE.]

NOTWHITE: V.

UNCOLORED: W.

NOTWHITE: X.

UNCOLORED: One or two? Three, maybe?

The NotWhite Woman looks at the UnColored Woman.

NOTWHITE: Fuck you!

UNCOLORED: You're crude.

NOTWHITE: He is callous!

UNCOLORED: So what?

NOTWHITE: Just sayin'!

UNCOLORED: So what?

NOTWHITE: (flippant) Y. Z.

UNCOLORED: Without me.

NOTWHITE: Without you? Without me!

The NotWhite Woman storms off into the darkness.

The UnColored Woman dissolves into tears.

Lights out.

I think it's beautiful and poetic. A little dramatic, but who doesn't like a little drama?
