So, I'm the co-director of Celebration Theatre's "Celebrating New Works" program. Once a month we get together and, as our name so aptly states, celebrate new works. (We're a clever bunch, ain't we?!)
This month, we are doing 5 short one-acts. I posted on CraigsList (NOT the personals section but the creative section, thank you very much), encouraging gay writers to submit. I received over 100 specs. And it left me wondering...
Why is it that every play written by a gay man seems to either do with hooking up online or coming out of the closet or dying of AIDS? Can't we gays ever be just "another guy" in a "funny situation". I don't online hook... My closet door has long been busted opened... And I'm 100% disease-free. Does that mean I'm unworthy of being immortalized in rote?
I think not!
