myTunes ~ Kelly Clarkson's "My December"

You've got to give it up for our little Miss Independent. She has most DEF been marching to her own atonal drummer lately. Firing her management team... giving no BS interviews left and right... even turning down a reported $5-million smackeroos from SugarDaddy [Clive] Davis to ditch her self-penned originals and put throw together a "more commercial" pop-tacular release.

Despite the lukewarm buzz surrounding the CD, I, of course, was logged onto iTunes at 12:01 AM to download my favorite AI-er's 3rd effort, "My December". At the very least, it's a departure from her first two albums; the songs have more of an intense-rock-but-not-overtly-punkish edge... and the harmonies are super tight! But I have to give Kelly greater props; the lyrics are surprisingly pretty and mysterious poetic (but not in that Jewel-esque "Oh, how they used to call me yellow hair and point at my crooked teeth!" sort of way)!

Highlights include the songs:

  • Be Still
  • Never Again [the 1st single]
  • Maybe
  • One Minute
  • Sober [my personal FAV!]

Overall, the Deluxe edition [available on iTunes and the #1 download today] is easily worth its weight in hard drive space. It's also comes with a 3 otherwise unavailable bonus songs, 2 previously unreleased remixes, and a secret song!

In short, buy "My December" and enjoy the evolution of American Idol's virginal champ!

PS: For an extra atypically special treat, download the recently released Reba McEntire cover version of Clarkson's "Because Of You". It's country music to my ears!
